A Star is Rising

Exciting two-year-old The Autumn Star looks destined for bigger accomplishments after an impressive win at Randwick over 1400m on Saturday.

Now two wins from two starts following an equally impressive debut victory on ANZAC Day, The Autumn Sun is heading towards the Group 1 JJ Atkins in Brisbane, a race which he is currently the favourite in betting.

The son of Redoute’s Choice was ridden by Brenton Avdulla who kept the colt out of trouble.

“I thought there would be a more genuine tempo and the field did stack up a little,’’ said Chris Waller’s stable representative, Charlie Duckworth.

“But Brenton was aware of what was happening in front of him so he popped the colt into a three-wide position and got a nice run.

“I think he is still working it out. Brenton was more hands and heels rather than going for the stick to help the colt stay together and find his action but he was strong late. This colt is going to a Group 1 in his next race so he had to prove it today and he was able to do that.’’

Raced by Hermitage, The Autumn Sun was purchased in conjunction with Hermitage at last year’s Inglis Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Arrowfield Stud. He is out of a Galileo half-sister to Champion European racehorse Azamour, bred by The Aga Khan.
