After a four-start campaign in Queensland, Vassal returned to Sydney and came back a winner over 2400m at Rosehill.
While unable to win in Queensland, Vassal did finish second in three of his four runs in the sunshine state.
It was import Vassal’s first win since February and sixth victory in Australia. Adapting quickly to Australia, Vassal won four of his first seven starts and placed in his other three starts when he first arrived in Australia last year.
The son of Dansili used all of the 2400m distance to win on Saturday, getting his nose in front in the last stride to beat Lycurgus and stablemate Great Glen, another import.
This latest victory took Vassal’s earnings to A$321,750 since he has been racing in Australia in the last 18 months. Selected by Mulcaster Bloodstock, Vassal was purchased for just £28,000 at Tattersalls July Sale in 2015.
