Mulcaster Bloodstock and Raffles Racing purchase Sacred Elixir (NZ) (Pour Moi) has forced his way into New Zealand’s richest race winning the Countdown to the Karaka Million at Ellerslie today.
Trained by Tony Pike, Sacred Elixir was selected from Wentwood Grange’s draft at Karaka last year and was secured for NZ$170,000.
“He’s a big, strong boy and we didn’t think he would come this far as a two-year-old so we’ll roll the dice again,” Pike said in regards to a start in the Karaka Million on 24 January at Ellerslie.
A strongly built son of Pour Moi, his third dam is the great mare Horlicks with this being the family of stakes winners Brew, Tremec, Bubble, Solo Flyer, Fiumicino and My Tusker.
Wentwood Grange’s offerings have proved a happy hunting ground for Mulcaster Bloodstock having also sourced dual Group One winner Kermadec (NZ) (Teofilo) from the Cambridge-based farm.
