Sacred Falls returns to summit at Royal Randwick

Sacred Falls returned to the scene of his greatest triumphs, adding the Group 1 George Main Stakes to his two Doncaster’s over the famous mile at Royal Randwick.

The Chris Waller trained stallion burst through the pack late to defeat stablemate Royal Descent with Laser Hawk holding on for third.

“He is a very good horse and it was great to see him win today on a dry track he is not just a wet tracker,” Waller said.

“Prior to coming to me he won a Group 1 in New Zealand on a pretty firm track and good to see him show today he isn’t just a wet tracker.

“That’s his fourth Group 1 all over the mile and what more can you ask, it’s just good when a plan comes off he was set for the race as soon as they (connections) said he would continue racing.

“He could have been in the breeding barn but thankfully they pushed on and showed he was a pretty dominate horse.

“Of course they are always there to win first up and second up but how can you screw them down when they are going towards races like today and races like the Cox Plate, it isn’t easy.”
Zac Purton returned to the saddle aboard Sacred Falls for the first time since his Doncaster Mile victory and had nothing but praise for the performance.

“He is a terrific horse, Chris has done a great job with him and he loves the mile,” he said.

“I didn’t have anything to worry about anything, I knew Chris would have him right. He was building him up for this race and it was just a matter of finding the right run and we did that.”
