Amicus denied on protest at Caulfield

Amicus may have been first past the winning post at her Melbourne debut but the result was unfortunately overturned in the stewards room.

Racing Victoria stewards deemed the shift from Amicus in the concluding stages of the race was enough to award Kaizaen the race, given the margin was only a nose.

Despite the final result, there was no doubting the quality of the performance by Amicus, who worked hard in the early stages to take up a forward position before kicking strongly in the straight.

Amicus is by Fastnet Rock out of Gold Chant and was purchased by Guy Mulcaster Bloodstock at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale for $500,000.

The nicely related filly, from the same family as Starspangledbanner, is in Melbourne for a possible tilt at the Group 1 Thousand Guineas.
