Rugged Cross wins again at Rosehill

A return to his home track sparked Rugged Cross to a narrow victory over stablemate Tougher Than Ever at Rosehill Gardens.

After being narrowly defeated at Caulfield two starts ago, Rugged Cross relished the heavy conditions to record the second Saturday victory of his campaign.

The win moved the imported stayers prizemoney past $217,000 and confirmed to connections that he produces his best form on rain affected ground.

“It’s important for my stable and important for the owners that we have won almost $100,000 from the race,” said trainer Chris Waller.

“Rugged Cross ran last week at Moonee Valley but the track was too firm.

“The beauty of having stables in Melbourne and Sydney is that we were able to bring him home to run on the wet track.

“One or two of these horses will now probably head to the Cameron Handicap at Newcastle.”
