Hugh Bowman was surprised with the result but had nothing but praise for the performance of First Seal following her narrow defeat at Rosehill Gardens.
First Seal finished second behind Sweynesse in the opening race on the card, kicking strongly before being denied by her impressive rival in the concluding stages.
“I was really pleased with her run, full credit to the winner actually because I thought I had the race in the keeping,” Bowman said.
“My filly wasn’t dying on her run, he just picked me up and put me away.
“I don’t walk away from that disappointed, I didn’t expect to win but I’m not disappointed with the fillies effort.”
First Seal was having only her third career start and second of the current campaign after winning impressively first-up at Randwick.
The John Thompson trained filly is by Fastnet Rock out of Episode, a mare that Raffles Farm purchased on the advice of Guy Mulcaster Bloodstock.
Raffles Farm have retained a share and race the filly who cost $700,000 as a yearling alongside China Horse Club and Think Big Stud among others.
