Murphy’s Delight continued the success rate of European imports joining the Chris Waller stable, winning at his Australian debut at Canterbury.
Only a veteran of five starts in Ireland, Murphy’s Delight was purchased by Mulcaster Bloodstock for 65,000gns at the Tattersalls Horses In Training Sale.
“He might be pretty good this one,” Waller said.
“He is the first of a new batch that we picked up last year and I think you will see a few more that have ability in the coming weeks.”
Ridden by Nash Rawiller, Murphy’s Delight showed good early speed to settle second in the 1550m event and took the lead at the top of the straight before fighting strongly in the straight to defeat Wine ‘N’ Dine and stable mate Hollywood Bound.
“That was pretty impressive, he switched off a little at the finish but he gives me the impression he will run 2400m, so it is good to see him do that at this distance,” Rawiller said.
