Instrumentalist wins at Flemington

Instrumentalist transferred his consistent Sydney form to Melbourne with a gutsy win at Flemington.

The Chris Waller trained import adapted well to his first trip to Victoria, going forward and holding off repeated challenges from his rivals to win the 2540m race.

Instrumentalist, a drifter from $4.60 to $6.50, scored by a head from McNaulty, $5, with a half length to Suspended Gem, $11, third.

“They just went so slow, he (Oliver) used his head and that’s the brilliance of having a jockey like him and think a race through and change tactics if they have to,” said stable foreperson Justine Hales.

The Amadeus Wolf gelding has now recorded four wins since arriving in Australia.
