Foreteller upstaged Melbourne Cup favourite Puissance De Lune to record the second Group 1 of his career in the Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington.
Proving his Ranvet Stakes victory was no fluke, Foreteller wore down Puissance De Lune after the pair fought courageously for the majority of the straight.
After starting his campaign in Sydney, Foreteller was sent to Melbourne as Chris Waller’s only runner in the Makybe Diva Stakes.
“We’ve got a few horses we could have sent down and our team chose the right one,” Waller said.
“I said to [jockey] Craig Newitt don’t go to early. He was pulling on him at the 500m mark and still waiting at the 300m mark.
“He angled him out at the right time. The last hundred it got very interesting but it was good to see him lunge on the post.”
Newitt’s ride was tactically brilliant as he settled back in the field and stalked Puissance De Lune before pulling to his outside in the straight.
“I was very happy in the run there was only one horse I really wanted to follow,” Newitt said.
“I was probably surprised he was back with us, Chris just said don’t move on him until the latest possible moment.
“My bloke was too strong. He had to reel off some good time and really tough it out against a great horse, I think whatever he runs in now he’s just going to be so competitive.”
Foreteller was selected by Mulcaster Bloodstock at the 2010 Tattersalls Horses in Training Sale in the UK, where he was purchased for 100,000gns.
